A group of military personnel at the Forte Paramacay military base in northern Venezuela (about 180 km from Caracas), promoted an uprising on Sunday (6) against the government of Nicolás Maduro. According to Chavista leader Diosdado Cabello, the group was surrendered by other members of the Armed Forces. Cabello is vice-president of the party of the government of Nicholas Maduro and member of the Constituent Assembly. He called the rebels "mercenary terrorist groups."

The group is formed by members of active troops of different components of the Venezuelan security corps, among them police officers.

In a video, a group of approximately 20 men wearing military and armed uniforms accompany a spokesman who identifies himself as "Captain Juan Caguaripano" and "Operation Commander David Carabobo," who stated that he declared "in rebellion" against "tyranny" Assassin of Nicolas Maduro ". In addition, he stressed that this is not a "coup d'état".

Caguaripano said that the group recognizes the National Assembly as a public power but has demanded recognition of the will of the people to "rid themselves of tyranny and honor the memory of young people [...] who, with cardboard shields, [. ...] offered their lives to teach a people to defeat fear. "
"Gentlemen of the National Assembly, the time has passed for pacts and hidden agreements between tyrants and traitors. We need honest politicians," he adds. Caguaripano ends the video demanding immediate formation of a transitional government and elections.

Caguaripano also says that any unit that refuses to follow its call for rebellion would be declared a military target.

According to Remigio Ceballos, strategic operational commander of the National Armed Forces, seven soldiers were detained.

On Sunday morning, around 5 o'clock local time, there were reports of fighting and shooting inside the Forte Paramacay military base.

The rebels also spread pamphlets during the night that they claimed to be in rebellion against Maduro's government. The pamphlets provide instructions for civil society to prevent any attack by the national government
